The Germany Reunion held Bielefeld, the weekend 8th - 10th December 2023.
Dear fellow members, we have just had an amazing reunion weekend here in Bielefeld which coincided with the Bielefeld Christmas Market 8-9 December 2023. Several members came across from UK and Denmark to meet up Friday night in the Irish bar for a warm up.
The hotel planning in the Altstadt and Ravensberger Hotels was spot on being in the middle of the Bielefelder Altstadt. Right by the wide spread Christmas market which made for easy walking to the Gluhwein stands and various delights and shops in the city centre. It proved to be far cheaper than any UK Xmas market.
As per last year we met up in the Irish bar which had great service and cocktails where two for the price of one which was a bonus for the ladies. It was the perfect start before we went for a meal in the famous Bielefelder brauhaus (booked 6 months previous to ensure we get a table. The place was amazing. We were given a great place to sit and were very well looked after by the Brewery girls. The pre menu booking worked a treat and the food was delicious washed down by their local brew which was a treat. Some of us even went and had a dance with all the local party goers who were having a smashing time in the old brewery. This was followed by a return to the Irish bar for further refreshments. Some managed it until 0200 hrs before toddling off to the hotel (no last orders here).
Saturday was a day of rest with some light strolling around the market in the afternoon. A few Glühwein’s and currywurst did not spoil the appetite for the evening dinner in the Gluck und Seligkeit restaurant. Those who had not been before were amazed at how nice the place was. You can judge for yourself from the pictures in our AC website. We had superb food and company and were very well looked after by the staff who were very attentive. It was a marvellous reunion within a very nice Christmas setting in what used to be a large church. We raised a glass to absent friends and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I must mention that the weekend would not been half as good without the ladies present. It was really nice and added that much more to the reunion.
Many have pledged to come back again at the same time next year. I am planning for the weekend 6 – 8 December 2024. So start planning. I really look forward to seeing you all in Larkhill in June so we can catch up again.
